General Information
More heart was added to the 5.0L V-8 by improving the engine's breathing characteristics. That meant the addition of special GT-40 cylinder heads, modified roller-rocker arms, stiffer valve springs, and a specially tuned upper intake manifold. It also has a specially revised camshaft, an oil cooler, a lightened flywheel, and an accessory drive system that reduces parasitic power loss.
The actual factory stock dyno power has been reported as 265 horsepower with 315 lb-ft torque.
Ridewise, SVT recalibrated and upgraded the springs, shocks, and stabilizer bars. Cobras got P255/45ZR all-weather tires mounted on 17-inch wheels that concealed the largest four-wheel vented disc brakes that had ever mounted to a production Mustang: 13.0-inch discs in front, 11.65-inch discs in back with Bosch anti-lock technology.
The premium sound system was tagged Mach 460. It includes three amplifiers, four mid-range tweeters, and four woofers. It produces 460 watts of power.
